Kaijus, Plushies, and Mech Suits - The Perfect Sci-Fi Combo

So it begins, the preparation for 2023 is here. There are number things that I have in mind, and what I am sharing now is just a sneak peek of the direction that I am heading in for the upcoming year. I plan to work on several one-shots to experiment with different types of storytelling, art styles, techniques, and to hopefully apply what I learn back into the other comics that I am working on.

I want to spend the next year building an audience for all my original characters. I won’t stress over having an outline for a story, because I want to dive deeper into the personalities of my characters. With this series, it will allow me to work with a new personality type. Protagonist of this comic is meant to have a dark path and hatred as his motivation. The grittiness of his personality contrasts with the aspect of having plush kaijus and plush mech suits.

So, for the character design images below, I was heavily inspired by Godzilla, Pacific Rim, and Gundam. I have been wanting to find a way to draw mechs for a while now. I had this idea for about a year, and officially started developing the characters and playing around with colors. This is intended to be a one-shot… for now. I am enjoying building out the story in my head as I draw the characters. For 2023, I hope to take my time in exploring colors and being able to shift away from the usual purples, reds, and blues in my pictures. I want this comic to feel gritty and inspiring.
