Behind the Comic: Drained (Work in Progress)

Happy New Year! I didn’t know how I wanted to kick off the new year. Honestly, I have been in a rut and stuck in a weird artist block. It was weird, but it felt different than any artist block that I have felt. I felt myself re-examining my relationship to social media, and feeling scared to draw. My fear wasn’t due to social media, but expectations that I placed on myself.

Lately, I found myself picking up my Apple Pencil again and even streaming on Twitch. I can’t say that I am completely out of my slump, but I feel I have a direction. I also feel that I am not comparing myself to anyone. I don’t want to list out my goals here just yet, but I am working towards being a full fledge comic book artist. I am storyboarding, working on scripts, and taking my time to draw and edit. I just want to be my polished in my overall process.

In addition to becoming a full fledge comic book artist, I want to use blog posts and twitch streams to document the process behind each issue. So that’s how we ended up here. I wanted to share some of the line art for an upcoming issue of “An Introvert’s Parable”. I plan to focus on this series for most of the year. With one shots here and there of other ideas that I have. I want to use “An Introvert’s Parable” as a way to experiment and learn as a comic book artist. Also, that stories in the series are based around my life so I don’t feel that coming up with ideas will be that hard. My other series still need a lot of polishing and fleshing out some ideas. So I plan to dedicate this year to capturing stories of my life.

I’m not sure what 2024 has to offer, but I hope this is a year where I can show growth as an artist and storyteller.

One Love,

I am Charles Williams
